Data Storage and work-flow

How do you look after your treasured photos?
How do store the images for customers after there photo session?
What is the best way to store digital photos from photo shoots and weddings?

Many photographers now shoot digital and this means that they have to  keep the images safe, with digital images on a computer the images are subject to lose from viruses, hardware and software failures that can lead to all of the photographs being lost.

There are many ways where you can  back up your data and photos, but is it the right option for you and your photos? We offer a cost effective and safe way to back up your data and photos keeping them safe.

All data (photos) are NOT safe when they are kept at the same location, this is due to fire risk.
NAS (network storage) and Plugged in(fixed) Hard drives are susceptible to electric surges and viruses.

False  back ups can account for data lose such as Raid +1, RAID+1 copies the content of one disc to another, this only protects against hardware failure of the disc’s only, it does copy any viruses to the other disc, it is susceptible to surges

RAID 0+1 offers the same false backup as when one of the strip (two physical drives making one) the data is lost for the two and can corrupt the +1 array or one of the +1 arrays can fail. This is within the tolerances of most back up systems and therefore acceptable to many people. However the fire risk remains.

How to  make a back up system that works.

One of the most effective ways of storing photographs safely is with off site back up which is carried out on-line from a service provider.
This can be costly as you are charged per gigabyte per month basis and as you know  file sizes are growing and therefore the cost of storage will also grow.
The benefits are that if you have a fire your images are not effected and most professional services have halon gas to suppress fires as well as multi floor and back up systems of there own.

Affordable back up which doesn’t effect your network, Internet connection and is handy in general is the National Photographer Back up pack’s.
